HH Younus AlGohar and Steve Bell Discuss Unitarian Spirituality on ThatChannel.com
H.H Younus AlGohar
The following is a transcript of a discussion between H.H Younus AlGohar, Steve Bell (Messiah Foundation UK), and host Hugh Reilly of ThatChannel.com, broadcast in December 2017. The conversation ranges across spirituality, terrorism, inner peace, and the mission of AlRa TV.
Who Makes a Good Spiritual Leader?
Hugh Reilly opened the discussion by asking what qualities distinguish a genuine spiritual leader from one who merely claims the title.
H.H Younus AlGohar responded that true spirituality involves the "reawakening" of the seven souls that reside within the human body — a process that requires the guidance of an authentic spiritual master. This is not something that can be learned from books, accomplished through religious rituals alone, or achieved by willpower. The souls must be awakened through a spiritual connection — an initiation that transmits divine energy from one heart to another.
A good spiritual leader, therefore, is not primarily a scholar, a theologian, or even an ethical exemplar — though all of these things may be present. A good spiritual leader is someone in whom this divine energy is alive, and who is capable of transmitting it to those who seek it sincerely.
Steve Bell added that the spiritual leader's role is fundamentally one of service. They are not there to accumulate followers, or to build institutions, or to promote an ideology. They are there to facilitate the connection between the individual soul and God — and then to step back, allowing that connection to grow and deepen on its own terms.
Terrorism
Hugh Reilly raised the question of terrorism and the role of religion in radicalisation — a topic of significant public concern in 2017 and beyond.
H.H Younus AlGohar was direct: radicalisation happens when young people are given a distorted version of religion — one stripped of its spiritual content and reduced to a ideology of grievance, identity, and violence. The antidote is not more security, more surveillance, or more political intervention — though these may be necessary in the short term. The antidote is genuine spiritual engagement.
When young people encounter real spirituality — when they experience the peace, the love, and the sense of divine connection that authentic spiritual practice produces — the appeal of violent ideology simply dissolves. You cannot simultaneously hold divine love in your heart and wish destruction on others. The two are incompatible.
The work of AlRa TV and Messiah Foundation International is, in part, a work of deradicalisation through spiritual reawakening — reaching young people who are vulnerable to extremist messaging and offering them something more compelling: the actual presence of God, accessible in their own hearts.
Inner Peace
Inner peace, H.H Younus AlGohar explained, is not the absence of difficulty. It is not a state of emotional numbness or detachment from the world. It is, rather, a quality of the heart — a settled, quiet foundation from which one can engage with even the most turbulent circumstances without being overwhelmed.
This peace is achieved through the reconnection of the soul to its divine source — through the opening of the heart to the flow of divine energy. When this connection is established and maintained, external circumstances lose their power to disturb the fundamental equilibrium of the being. One can face suffering, conflict, and uncertainty without losing one's footing, because one's footing is in something that external circumstances cannot touch.
Spiritual healing, too, flows through this connection. The positive energy of divine love is not merely a metaphor — it is a real force that has measurable effects on the human being, not only spiritually but psychologically and, in some cases, physically.
Deradicalisation
Steve Bell spoke about Messiah Foundation International's work with young people in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, addressing the pathways through which individuals become vulnerable to extremist recruitment.
The approach is fundamentally positive — not counter-messaging in the conventional sense, but the transmission of a genuinely compelling alternative. Young people who are spiritually alive, who have a direct personal experience of the divine, who feel loved and purposeful and connected — these are young people who have no use for the ideology of hate.
"It is very easy to hate and you don't need to learn how to hate. But to learn to love, you have to make a bit of effort."
That effort — the effort of learning to love — is precisely what the spiritual path consists of. And it is an effort that produces, for those who make it, a quality of life that no ideology of resentment can match.
Reaching Out to Atheists
Hugh Reilly asked about the challenge of reaching atheists — people who have, often for understandable reasons, rejected the idea of God entirely.
H.H Younus AlGohar's response was characteristic of his approach: he did not argue for the existence of God, or attempt to refute atheism philosophically. Instead, he proposed a different entry point. The spiritual practices taught by HDE Ra Riaz Gohar Shahi do not require prior belief. They require only a sincere willingness to explore — to try the method and see what happens.
When an atheist sincerely practices heart meditation — when they quiet the mind and attend to the subtle inner dimension of their experience — they often find something they did not expect: a presence, a warmth, a quality of peace that their prior framework had given them no vocabulary to describe. The experience itself becomes the argument. Not a logical argument, but an experiential one — and it is the only argument that genuinely changes minds.
Spiritual Healing
The discussion turned briefly to the phenomenon of spiritual healing — the documented cases of physical and psychological transformation that have occurred in the presence of HDE Ra Riaz Gohar Shahi and in connection with AlRa TV's broadcasts.
H.H Younus AlGohar described this as the natural consequence of divine energy flowing into a human being. The body, the psyche, and the soul are not separate systems — they interpenetrate and affect one another continuously. When the soul is nourished with divine energy, the effects radiate outward into every dimension of the person's being.
AlRa TV broadcasts nightly at 10 PM GMT, transmitting spiritual discourse and — in a very real sense — the energy of the spiritual connection to viewers around the world. The broadcasts are available to anyone who seeks them, free of charge, across all platforms.
